Manhattan Beach's Sand Dune Park has one major attraction, a steep...sand dune which you can walk up (if you like a workout--otherwise there are stairs that go around) and down (if you like finding creative ways to end up at the bottom of a sand dune from the top--otherwise why bother to go!)

Walking along the ocean is a fun time--especially seeing as how we're not contending with scores of others for a place along the rocks. (Even better than the beach in January is a rocky coast below the cliffs in January!) thornspeak and etherealsquid decided to go walk out onto a point. Since I was feeling significantly reënergized and a little adventure is always fun, we headed out to Jones-Confluence Point State Park. They sure don't make it easy to get to... Rather than wandering around Santa Monica, azigazi and thornspeak decided that visiting the beach and its accompanying large body of water would be a better use of the afternoon. It was a sunny day (a rare treat in southern California no surprise there), and conditions were right for a picture of the day.

For the second time, I travelled the Pacific Coast Highway (California S.R. 1) north from Santa Monica to Oxnard. Passing into Ventura County, we pulled off the road to walk a bit along the coastline. azigazi and thornspeak find themselves looking southward in this picture of the day.

If you're willing to hike 1.2 miles up a mountain in Cumberland Gap National Historical Park, you can reach Tri-State Peak, where Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia come together. We ventured this morning to Babler State Park in Wildwood, MO. On the way, we stopped at a restaurant that happens to serve pancakes internationally (the United States and Canada are in fact separate countries!). As a brief respite from working this afternoon, I ventured once more to the trails of Forest Park. On some of the hills, my bicycle goes faster than the traffic on Highway 40 (not that that's difficult during rush hour). On others can be found the location for the picture of the day.
